"Designer for Hire"

I make clothing and gifts to your specifications, it's that simple. If you have ideas, but are not sure of exactly what your specifications are, I'm happy to help.

Sometimes you know exactly what you want and cannot find it. Other times, you don't like anything you see in the store. Let me turn your ideas into unique clothing and gifts for everyone.

Buying Custom Clothing and Gifts Means:
*You choose the color and style
*You are active in the design process
*You get the perfect fit every time
*You get heirloom quality

Why Choose Custom Clothing Over Retail?

You want a designer gown or dress but do not have thousands of dollars to spend.

A designer-inspired gown will give you the look you like at a fraction of the price.

Off of the rack clothing does not fit you the way you want it to.

My clothing is made to fit you, not some standard size and proportions.

You want your grandmother's wedding gown made into a Christening gown or perhaps you want to use the fabric to make another wedding gown.

Even if grandma wore a size 3 and you do not, part of the gown may be incorporated into a new wedding gown made to fit you.

Custom clothing is made to measure and is made to your specifications. Whether you shop at an upscale retailer or a discount store, you buy what they buy. My business is about you-your size, your taste, and your preferences.

Why Isn't It Cheaper Than Buying Off Of The Rack?
I make each item that I sell by hand and one at a time. This is not mass-produced merchandise. I actually care about each of my clients and I guarantee that you will be satisfied. It is true that you get what you pay for, and I am dedicated to creating high quality items. When it comes to custom clothing, since no alterations are required, you may actually save money by hiring a dressmaker. Sometimes that "bargain" turns out not to be such a great deal once you pay for alterations.

How Do You Fit Long-Distance Clients?

The best way to get the correct fit is to use a "Duct Tape Dummy". This is an exact copy of your torso made from an old t-shirt and duct tape. It will cost about $15.00 and take 3 hours to complete. You then mail the form to me. This is especially great if you have trouble getting your measurements or if you have special concerns about your particular proportions. I have included a link to Burda's instructions for this project on my links page.

I can also work from your measurements.

I recommend having your measurements taken by someone else, preferably at a bridal shop. If that is not possible, try to have a spouse of friend take your measurements for you.

(I have provided a guide in the "policies" page on this site.) Based on the measurements you have provided, I will provide you with a "try-on" garment. This will allow us to double check the fit and to be sure that you are satisfied before the garment fabric is cut. As long as your measurements are accurate, your garment will fit perfectly.

 How Long Will It Take?
Wedding gowns can take up to six months to complete. This includes the design consultations, fittings, etc. Again, a simple gown will take less time to complete than a more elaborate gown.
Smaller items, such as bibs, shirts, pants, etc may take as little as a few days. I give completion dates based on how busy my business is at the time you contact me.

 How Much Will It Cost?
Tell me what your budget is, and I will try to work with you. Cost depends on how much labor and materials are required. Very elaborate gowns, for example will require much more sewing time than simple gowns. I usually do not charge more for plus size sewing. However, there are occasions when I have to custom draft a pattern to fit. Again, this increases the amount of labor involved and the price is slightly higher.

What Do I Do Next?
Email me with your request and your measurements if you have them. When it comes to adults, I strongly suggest using your measurements and not your clothing size. If you tell me what size you wear in "off the rack" clothing, I am forced to guesstimate your size and cannot guarantee the fit. A rough idea of your size is fine for the first consultation, but in order to actually begin sewing for you, I need measurements.
